Masonry Compressive Strength

The compressive strength of masonry does not follow from the brick alone. Brick and mortar work together, and that combination determines what the wall can carry. This calculation derives the characteristic compressive strength from the given brick and mortar data and then verifies whether the wall satisfies the ultimate limit state.

When We Use This

  • A load-bearing wall whose load changes, for example when adding an extra storey
  • Verification of existing masonry during renovation or a change of use
  • Doubt whether a chosen brick-mortar combination meets the structural requirements

Basis

  • NEN-EN 1996-1-1 (Eurocode 6)
  • National annex
  • NPR 9096-1-1

The calculation follows these standards. You receive a calculation report in which the assumptions and the verification are traceable.
