Strengthening existing structures during renovation

Strengthening existing concrete structures with carbon reinforcement grids and fabrics is lightweight, has a minimal added thickness and does not add extra load to the structure. GRID CARBOrefit and WRAP Carbon are designed for this.

What is the CARBOrefit method?

GRID CARBOrefit is a carbon reinforcement grid designed to strengthen reinforced concrete structures using the CARBOrefit method: a layer of fine-grained concrete with carbon reinforcement is applied to the existing concrete surface. This enables durable, resource-saving strengthening that secures the existing structure and increases its load-bearing capacity and durability.

Which products suit renovation and strengthening

GRID CARBOrefit applies the CARBOrefit method using a layer of fine-grained concrete. WRAP Carbon is a unidirectional carbon fabric wrapped around structural elements for extra strength and stiffness, without compromising flexibility.

Installation

With GRID CARBOrefit, the existing concrete surface is prepared and then the layer of fine-grained concrete with carbon reinforcement is applied. WRAP Carbon is wrapped around the structural element with resin. The exact layer thickness, resin and curing time are given on the technical data sheet of the chosen product.

Frequently asked questions

Is strengthening with carbon as strong as adding steel?

Carbon reinforcement has a tensile strength several times higher than steel, at much less weight; the exact sizing is done per project by a structural engineer.

How much extra thickness does carbon fibre strengthening add?

GRID CARBOrefit and WRAP Carbon are designed with a minimal added thickness, so the strengthening adds little to no extra load to the structure.
