Bed joint reinforcement is reinforcement placed in the horizontal joint (the bed joint) between bricks or blocks. BRIKSY, Remarkable Group's bed joint reinforcement, prevents cracks around window and door openings in masonry walls and is non-corrosive, so it is also suitable for external facades where steel reinforcement would rust. The product is already widely used by contractors such as Aberson, Heijmans and Van Wijnen.
Bed joint reinforcement is placed preventively in the horizontal joint of new or repaired masonry, especially around window and door openings: these are the points where the wall has locally less stiffness and where thermal and shrinkage cracks most often occur. BRIKSY is designed for this and is available in carbon and AR glass, both non-corrosive.
BRIKSY Carbon weighs 630 g/m² and has a tensile strength of 2,173 MPa; BRIKSY AR-glas weighs 860 g/m² with a tensile strength of 1,400 MPa. Both are available in 6 widths from 40 to 300 mm and are CE marked in accordance with EAD 260057-00-0303.
| Product | Material | Weight | Tensile strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| BRIKSY Carbon | Carbon | 630 g/m² | 2,173 MPa |
| BRIKSY AR-glas | AR glass fibre | 860 g/m² | 1,400 MPa |
| FLEX GRID Carbon / AR glass / Basalt | Carbon, AR glass or basalt | flexible mesh | cut to size |
BRIKSY is laid in the horizontal joint during bricklaying, or, for repairs, placed in an opened-up joint with mortar. The products are designed for easy handling and installation, without special training. The exact execution (amount of mortar, overlap, fixing) is given on the technical data sheet of the chosen product.
BRIKSY Carbon and BRIKSY AR-glas are CE marked in accordance with EAD 260057-00-0303. For the exact application limits and design values, please refer to the technical data sheet of the chosen product.
Stainless steel and galvanised steel can still corrode under long-term moisture exposure, risking cracking from rust expansion. Composite bed joint reinforcement such as BRIKSY (carbon or AR glass) does not corrode and is therefore also suitable for external facades.
No. BRIKSY is used both preventively in new construction and for repairing existing masonry, especially around window and door openings where cracks most often occur.
BRIKSY Carbon and BRIKSY AR-glas are both available in 6 widths from 40 to 300 mm.
No, these are different applications. Bed joint reinforcement works preventively in the joint; a crack stitching bar such as CONNECTOR Wall Crack Anchor repairs an existing crack.
